Detailed 3 Days Congo Gorilla Safari from Kigali City Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival, Tour Kigali City and Transfer to Virunga National Park

Upon arrival, our 3 Days Congo Safari professional guide assigned to you will pick you from Kigali International Airport or from a hotel of your residence if you have already been in the country.

You will then receive a short briefing on what is expected of you and what you should expect to meet once out on the adventure! While out for the tour in the Kigali City, you will visit the former presidential palace, Rwanda Genocide Memorial Centre, the main city Market and artisan shops!

During this moment, one can choose to buy gifts for their loved ones back home or for personal satisfaction. After this morning encounter with the city community, your driver will now drive out of the city heading to the Congo border!

Upon arrival at the Congo border, lunch will be served thereafter clear with the relevant authorities and be handed over to the Virunga National Park to transfer you to your lodge!

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga Congo, Evening Relaxation or Visit the Senkwekwe Centre

This is the biggest day of this 3 Days Congo gorilla safari, you will need to wake up very early and starting planning your day out and prepare all the necessary tools/items that may be needed for this day.

You will have to ensure you have everything set with you before the park authorities come to pick you from the lodge and set out for the expedition! Residing within the park or near to the park will have you starting the briefing on time and hence have more time when it comes to gorilla trekking.

There are 8 habituated gorilla families in Congo, you will be assigned to any of the gorilla families based on your level of fitness among other factors! While with the gorillas, you will be expected to keep calm and avoid unnecessary movements and noise which may easily provoke the gorillas.

Day 3 of 3 Days Congo Gorilla Safari: Transfer Back to Kigali for Departure

This is the last day of the 3 Days Congo Safari and it has no particular activities except planning your journey back to Kigali. You will wake up in the morning at any time you feel like, organize yourself and then have breakfast served to you from the lodge!

You will then start on the 3 Days Congo Safari journey back to Kigali, the journey will start with the park authorities of Congo giving you their driver to drive you up to the border point where you will then meet with our driver who will drive you for the remaining distance back to Kigali.

Virunga National Park

Virunga National Park is situated in the North-Eastern region, Kinshasha a famous town in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), it sits on a land area of 3,050 square miles (equivalency of 7,900 square kilometers) and has a vast diversity of habitats. This park was created in 1925 and was formerly known as Albert National Park.

The Southern tip of this park rests on the Northern shores of Lake Kivu, a short distance from Goma Town to the East! The Virunga Mountains lie between lakes Kivu and Edward which also extend into Rwanda and Uganda.

The great volcanoes of the Virunga range are clothed in cloudy forests; these include the dormant Mikeno, Karisimbi, Visoke, and Sabino (sabinyo) volcanoes, as well as the active volcanoes of Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira. Farther north are Rutsushuru falls and Mai Ya Moto Sulfur springs.

The park’s central region is occupied by Lake Edward and to the northeast; the Rwenzori Range soars to more than 16,000 feet (4,880M) in altitude! There are significant elevations in climatic changes and habitats that notably vary in Virunga National Park, with both the highest and lowest rainfall being recorded within the park’s boundaries!

Adventure to the Presidential Museum on the 3 Days Congo Gorilla Safari from Rwanda

The presidential museum is a royal palace situated in the outskirts of Kigali City on the Eastern side of the city! Before 1994, this palace was a home of Rwandan presidents and had house two of the presidents with its family member prior to the genocide.

You will be enlightened by the deep details of the tragedy that happened on the 6th of April 1994 when President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane was gunned down in the company of Burundian president who unfortunately did not survive the tragedy!

The debris from this catastrophic incident have been stored in this museum, this also gave momentum to 1994 stain in Rwanda’s history where the two tribes of Hutu and Tutsi bitterly wielded pangas, matchets and any other deadly tools one could come across and mercilessly killed every other person of the opposite tribe, young or old, innocent or guilty, male or female.

Besides the alluring history about this mighty palace, there are worthy notable features including the various fruit trees in the museum compound, the art piece that was gifted to the then president, plus the lavish nature of this genocide which has become a much sought-after museum for most history lovers.

This royal palace is located in Nyaza ya Butare district of presently known to be Huye! This amazing site rich of history was constructed in 1932. It is a traditionally set up palace with a perfect blend of modernism, this makes it a number one destination for every traveler.

According to www.visitrwanda.com, this palace is termed as a reconstruction of the traditional royal residence, and the King’s palace is a beautifully-crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive!
