Nice, clear guide — helpful overview for families. Do you have recommendations for the best age range for kids to enjoy game drives without getting restless, and any tips on managing naps or long drives between parks? Also curious if a Zanzibar extension is better before or after the safari. I checked https://world-prices.com/en/tanzania/prices but not sure how up-to-date those figures are.
Hello Elowen Marwick,
Thanks for the great comment on my blogs I really appreciate and keep checking back for more updates about East Africa safaris.
Replying to your inquiry, the best age range to enjoy a safari in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda varies depending on the activities as below;
Gorilla trekking and Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda and Rwanda, Age Limit is 15 Years
White Water Rafting in Jinja, Age Limit is 12 Years
Mountain Hiking, age limit is 15 Years
Safari Game Drives in East Africa National Parks, does not have age limit. But to Enjoy better without inconveniences, I personally recommend 5 years and above.
On Managing Naps for Kids especially for Long distance drives, Our safari cars are very comfortable with well maintained chairs, seat belts, and AC, so a kid of 5 years can seat in a chair and take a nap for like 2 hours. But still given that the long drives are through different terrains, there is a lot to see during the drives. Sleeping off may be hard.
Zanzibar safari extension is best after the safari. Because after having long game drives in bumpy roads, after trekking through the thick forests of Virunga Massif, someone needs to take a rest in form oof relaxation before flight back home. So we recommend that you add Zanzibar beach holiday at the end of the safari.

interesting
Nice guide — very informative. Quick question: are there recommended minimum ages for kids to join walking safaris or balloon rides, and do most family lodges provide babysitting or child-focused meals? Also, is Zanzibar best added at the end of the trip? Thanks.
