Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

On the first day of your Rwanda chimpanzee tracking safari, you will arrive at Kigali International Airport, where you will be met by your tour guide. After a warm welcome, you will embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, located in southwestern Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 5-6 hours, but it offers beautiful views of the countryside.

Upon arrival at Nyungwe Forest, you will check into your lodge and have some time to relax and freshen up. In the afternoon, you can take a nature walk around the lodge to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty and get a glimpse of the park’s diverse flora and fauna.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park’s visitor center to meet with experienced rangers who will brief you about the chimpanzee tracking experience and provide important guidelines for the trek. Nyungwe Forest is home to a large population of chimpanzees, making it an excellent destination for primate enthusiasts.

The chimpanzee tracking excursion takes you deep into the forest, where you will follow the expert guidance of the rangers in search of the habituated chimpanzee groups. The trek can be physically demanding as you navigate through hilly and sometimes muddy terrain, but the anticipation of encountering these fascinating creatures makes it all worthwhile.

Once you locate a chimpanzee group, you will spend a memorable hour observing their behavior and getting up close to these remarkable primates. You may witness them swinging from tree to tree, grooming each other, or feeding on fruits. The experience of being in their presence is truly awe-inspiring.

After the chimpanzee tracking, you can enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest before making your way back to the lodge. In the afternoon, you can relax and take in the peaceful surroundings or choose from other optional activities such as a canopy walk, bird watching, or visiting the nearby tea plantations.

Day 3: Canopy Walk and Departure

On the final day of your chimpanzee tracking safari, you will have the opportunity to experience the famous Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk. This thrilling activity involves walking on suspended bridges and platforms that are positioned high above the forest floor, offering stunning panoramic views of the treetops and the surrounding landscape. It’s an excellent way to appreciate the forest’s biodiversity from a unique perspective.

After the canopy walk, you will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast. Following that, you will check out and begin your journey back to Kigali. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours, and along the way, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and make a stop at the Uwinka Visitors’ Center for some last-minute souvenir shopping.

Upon arrival in Kigali, your guide will transfer you to the airport or your preferred drop-off location, marking the end of your unforgettable chimpanzee tracking safari in Rwanda.
